16 October 2018 - Many are called but few are frozen

Yo

Last Tuesday we had district preparation day, so we went ice skating together. Our Canadian Elder Uffland was very happy. Afterwards we went to the best Mexican food restaurant in town. We know it's the best because Hermana Gutierrez is in our district and she's from Mexico, and she can order her food in Spanish to the waiter, therefor it's authentic. That night we had some Elders from Laramie spend the night, because we had zone conference Wednesday morning and if it snowed too much that night they'd be stuck in Laramie and not make it.

Zone conference was great, we had it at this awesome ranch. We thought we were going to be in a barn, but it was too cold, so we were in their HUGE house. It went great, my companion Elder Killian gave his "departing testimony" which was really great. Being in a meeting with all set apart full time missionaries is a really cool place to be, and feel the spirit so strongly. We did exchanges afterwards so I just went home with elder Garcia.

Exchanges on Thursday was fun, we did service at the retirement home as usual, and afterwards went to help this member. It's the guy who has the emus, and he has a bunch of other types of birds and goats, and peacocks, and pigs (who just had PIGLETS they were adorable). So that was fun stuff. The rest of the day we mostly spent finding people to teach which was super fun, it wasn't too cold.

Friday night we had a great lesson. We were able to put somebody on date!! This person has been meeting with missionaries for a while, and last time we met with her she told us she wants to be baptized, but wouldn't set a date. Again when we invited her to set a date during our lesson Friday, she told us no. But long story short she opened up to us and told us why, and we were able to tell her she needs the gift of the Holy Ghost in her life, and we promised it would help her. The spirit was super strong and she is now preparing for baptism!

Saturday morning we went to help someone remove insulation from their attic. He bought a new house that was built in the 1930s. We didn't really know what we were doing, but we had masks and gloves, and went up there and just started ripping it out in the dark using our phones for flashlights. He ended up running home and grabbing headlamps and a rake and we used to rake to speed things up. It was fun. Also Saturday we decided we weren't going to use our car at all, so we left in the afternoon to go walk around and contact people/find people. It wasn't too cold when we left so we were just wearing sweaters....well it got cold and rainy. BUT we were successful in our contacting/finding efforts. Some members saw us when we were almost home and saved us from the cold rain. The sister was upset with us for not wearing coats, she was acting like a mom to us. Saturday night there was an 8 year old boy being Baptized, and we were invited to go and help. By the time we left for the baptism it was snowing pretty hard, but we got to the baptism and it went great. The spirt there was so strong, and they gave us a chance to go up and share a "missionary message" (which Elder Killian failed to tell me we were asked to do) but it went well and I was actually excited for the opportunity to share with a bunch of people my testimony. ALSO the girl we put on date Thursday night was there and felt the spirit of the baptism YES!!
We went outside and everyones cars were COVERED, and it was still snowing hard, so we brushed off our car and started brushing off everyone else's cars. More Brothers came outside and started helping, and throwing snowballs at each other. It was fun, except for the fact that I could not feel my hands or my ears.

Sunday was COLD. But it was a great fast and testimony meeting at church, as always. The ward was pretty empty (I think people used the weather as an excuse not to come to church) yet there wasn't much quiet space in between people bearing their testimonies. I love this ward. Sunday night we got fed by a family from a different ward again! Shout out to the Krummenachers, they have family here in Cheyenne and somehow they found me and invited us over for dinner!

Monday we had a lesson with someone who is preparing for baptism (Mei) and it should be happening soon so I'm super excited for that!! My companion leaves me Friday, so he's kinda bummed about they are getting baptized right after he leaves. Her husband told him to stay longer and he would drive him home to Utah "I could get you there in 4 hours" hahaha. This week should be exciting a lot of stuff is happening. Love you all, thank you for reading all the way to the bottom, you rock. Jesus loves you too.

Spiritual thought: There are a lot of temptations out there in the world. Nephi in the beginning of the Book of Mormon says "I am encompassed about, because of the temptations and the sins which do easily beset me". I wonder what Nephi would say if he lived in our world today. Temptation is EVERYWHERE. But an awesome story of how to react to temptation is in the book of Moses. Moses 1:13-immediately after Moses has an experience with the Lord, Satan comes and tempts him to worship him. Moses says "who art thou? For behold, I am a son of God". What an awesome way to respond to temptation, remember who you are. You are a child of the true and living God, you have power to overcome the dumb things other people are doing in the world who don't know who they are. Remember when faced with temptation who you are:A son and daughter of God.

Fun stuff:
-our car keys/key to our apartment/key to our church building ended up on the snowy roof of our stake center...long story
-during service we found a chicken who drowned where its supposed to drink water-and we don't know how because it want very deep and there's a plank for them to walk down and up
-while tracting someone had a note on their doorbell that said "please do NOT ring the doorbell", so we opened their security door and on their door they had a note that said "please do NOT knock on the door".....so I knocked on the wall :)
-on the drive home from the baptism on the interstate, everyone was driving like under 20 mph in the middle of the road (because you couldn't see any lanes) AND the power went out because it was storming and snowing so bad so the streetlights were not on...
-the high was 25 on Sunday
-I was challenged to jump in the snow, so I did
-I used up an entire pen for the first time in my life I think this week....kinda sad I liked that pen
