2 October 2018 - What is a missionary's favorite car?

Hi :)

First to answer the question: What is a missionaries favorite car? A convertable....haha...get it...CONVERTable....hahaha

We had a pretty good week this last week. Wednesday we didn't have a lot of plans, also we didn't have a lot of miles left on our car that we were allowed to use this month. So we spent a lot of time just walking around doing finding and trying to talk to people. We were out walking around near a high school and junior high when school got out, and surprisingly had a lot of conversations with high schoolers and stuff. It was interesting...i think they started the conversation by just trying to be funny and make fun of us but ended up asking questions so that was cool. Also the weather is great so people in the evening go and sit on their porch, sometimes to smoke. We had a few conversations with people just sitting on their porch. As a missionary im always looking for opportunities to have a conversation with people. Its sad that sometimes as normal people we don't take the time to talk and listen. We're all brothers and sisters. Take the name to ask someone how their day is, or how they are doing. It's what Christ would do. I don't think Christ would walk down the street and walk past a single person, without seeing how they are doing.

We had a great lesson on Thursday night about the Plan of salvation with these two youth we are teaching. They are AWESOME. We started talking about what things we need to do while we are here on earth and the 14 year old brought up repentance and baptism. So we invited her to be baptized and she said she would! She was a little nervous to set a date, but she said she would pray about it.

Friday we woke up the checked the weather. The high was 46 degrees. 46 degrees?! We went outside and the air was like wet...there weren't raindrops it was just freezing water-mist-stuff in the air. We met with Mei in the morning and her husband was there. We taught the gospel of Jesus Christ (faith in Christ, repentance, baptism, the Holy Ghost, and enduring the the end). It went GREAT. Kinds funny, she was telling her husband that she wished that he looked like us....at first we were confused and she started talking about how he looks dark and we look like God and Jesus Christ. Then it clicked. She's recognizing the Spirit. As baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, me and Elder Killian have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost and she could see the difference between us and her husband. So we were able to talk to her about how she can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. And we even set a baptismal date for her to work towards!! It was awesome the day was going great. We went from that to a appointment we had with a lady at 3. I knocked on the door twice and nobody answered. I knocked on the door one more time and a man answered, yelled at us for knocking, and slammed the door. Well....the day went from AWESOME to LAME. Just kinda how life is. Somtimes life is great, and sometimes lame things happen that aren't in our control. But if you don't let the lame things consume you, you'll be a happy person. We ended the day meeting with a less active member and sharing a sweet message with him. Even though one lame thing happened, and it was freezing outside, I ended the day happy.

Saturday was cool. We went to the church building for wifi to do some online stuff. But I think the spirit guided us there for different reasons than we thought. A lady came in and started setting up chairs by herself for a primary program. We saw her and helped her finish. We sat back down to do our stuff, and a guy walks in and sees us. He asked if we had keys to the baptismal font and we did. Apparently his daughter was getting baptized that day, and he needed keys to open up the font to fill it up and stuff, but his ward mission leader was out of town with the keys. So good thing we were there, I don't know who else he would have gotten keys from nobody else was there. The Lord always has a greater plan, and as long as we're in tune with the Spirit as missionaries, we'll be guided to what He needs us to do. Whether or not we even realize we're being guided by the spirit. That night we ate dinner with an AWESOME family. Funny story, I was at church last Sunday and a guy walks up to me and asks how my brother is doing...weird. Apparently they were members in a ward by brother Michael served in, in Alabama, and they moved here to the airforce base just recently. They're in a different ward that we share a building with, I was just there for ward council. We got a text from him later saying that we wanted to feed us, even thought he's in a different ward with a different set of elders. We got permission, so Saturday night he came and picked us up and drove us to his home on base, and we ate dinner with him and his family. It was awesome being fed by someone else's ward haha, shout out to by brother Michael (Elder Milius v.1) for getting us that sweet dinner appointment.

Sacrament meeting on Sunday was amazing. Apparently there was an area meeting or something that finished in time for then all to come to our sacrament meeting, so the whole stake presidency was there, a member from the seventy, the temple president, an area authority, a couple other stake presidents, and lots of other people. AND our mission president, that was a fun surprise. So the stake president said a few words, and the member of the seventy, then our ward had their primary program. Which was amazing, kinda crazy how little children can bring the spirit so strongly, and teach Elder Milius (an 18 year old missionary who things he knows everything, but really is constantly reminded that he doesn't know anything).

Spiritual thought: This last week I decided to go through a Book of Mormon and underline everytime Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ is mentioned. It only took a few days I think that's my record for reading the Book of Mormon. As I was reading and pondering my mind was just impressed on how much the Lord is there for us. He is there more than we realize. Jacob 6:5 tells us that God CLEAVES unto us. In the chapter before it is the allegory of the olive trees. Christ is the master of the vineyard and the Vinyard is the world. Christ says "what could I have done more for my vineyard". He has already done everything in His power to get us to return to our Heavenly Father. I also read in Matthew 10:29-31, it takes about how a sparrow doesnt fall to the ground without the Father knowing. The Father cares about each of his creations...but we're worth more than sparrows. We're his children, the very hairs of our head are numbered to Him. He cares about you more than you think. He is closer to you than you think. God the Father and Christ love and care about you and have done everything in their power for you. Turn to them and accept the blessings waiting for you.

Fun stuff:
-a lady warned me about winter and told me to breathe through my mouth when it gets around 0 degrees so that I don't breathe through my nose and freeze and die
-Elder Killian started giving me his winter clothes because "I need it more than he does"...its true
-I'm the best at mario monopoly
-we went to get hot chocolate from McDonald's and I saw a picture of an apple pie and was tempted so I ordered one...they didn't have any made so I had to wait like 20 minutes...worth it though
-sunsets here are more awesome in real life-they'd be perfect but they're missing the AZ mountains.

Im failing at taking pictures so sorry if you miss my beautiful face, but I got one that I posted on Facebook (BTW I have a Facebook for my mission if you wanna friend me or whatever)
