13 November 2018 - I'm having a nICE time in Wyoming

hi

Another good week gathering sheep in Cheyenne. Tuesday morning we got a referall from a guy who ordered a Bible!! As a district we have been focusing and praying for new people to teach and this person found US. We planned on going over and sharing John 3:16 with him then sharing 2 Nephi 25:26 and offering him the Book of Mormon and asking if we could teach him. Well we went over and the spirit took over. I shared John 3:16, then he started opening up to us and sharing with us about why he ordered the Bible. He kept calling himself a sinner, saying that "I know you guys can smell the alcohol all over me", and that "I already know there is no hope for me". Immediately scriptures from the Book of Mormon started popping into my head to share with him, and we sat there in the cold on the porch for like 20 minutes testifying to this man that there is a way back and that His father loves him, and Jesus Christ is reaching out to him. Christ probably wants him back more than he even wants to go back. It was amazing seeing how the spirit directed us missionaries to share with this man exactly what he needed. Basically our plan was okay, but Heavenly Father knew better. Another cool thing about that experience, he kept saying how he smelled like beer....I couldn't smell a thing. All I saw was a son of God, who I know is loved and cared about.

Wednesday morning we had a "trainers/new missionary meeting" That was fun, but I felt weird. We split up and one point and the trainers had a meeting with the Assistants to the President and at one point we used our devices....everyone pulled out their tablet and I pulled out my phone. All the missionaries starting with my group that cane out are now coming out with phones instead of tablets. I felt like I was on the wrong room because I was the only one with a phone because I'm still basically a greenie!! Later that night we knocked on a door and a Spanish lady answered who spoke like no English and told us that. So I said "¿Jesucristo?" and she let us in and her husband spoke a little Spanish. But just saying Jesus Christ's name softened her heart...the gift of tongues is real. We taught the restoration and gave them a Libro de Mormon that we happened to have in our car, and referred them over to a Hermana.

Friday something cool happened. I felt like we should go to a specific trailer park to go tracting, after praying. So we went, and it's a pretty big neighborhood. I ended up parking RIGHT in front of the office apparently and as we got out and grabbed out stuff to go a lady walked out and yelled at us to go over. She asked what we were doing and I said we were going to go talk to people. She started yelling at us saying there are signs posted everywhere saying "no soliciting and that we had to leave" and I told her we weren't soliciting and she kept yelling, then I told her we were going to go talk to members of our church. (which wasn't a lie we were going to contact some members while tracting their street). The lady thought I was lying so she said "name one, Ill call them" and a name of a family that I thought lived there popped into my head, and I even remembered the father's first name. She said fine and left and I decided we better not knock doors, and we better go see that family so I'm not a liar. We knocked on their door and they let us in and we talked and shared a short message. Afterwards the father opened up to us and told us how its funny that we showed up today because he just lost his job and has really been struggling, especially with losing his job around this time of year. He said they needed the spirit we brought with us into their home. I know the Lord directed all of that. Us going to that neighborhood, me parking right in front of the office, the cranky lady being cranky, the name of this family popping into my head. I haven't even seen this family at church since I got here. I know the Lord is looking out for them.

Saturday was fantastic!! We woke up early to drive down to the church building to fill up the font :). The sound of water running in the church is even better than the sound of sizzling bacon, or a laughing baby. Not that sizzling bacon and a laughing baby have the same effect on me....laughing babies don't make me hungry...both sounds just make me happy! Jenny was baptized Saturday morning. I am so grateful the Lord sent me here to Cheyenne Wyoming at this time to be His instrument in helping Jenny and her mother Mei. I know that I didn't do any of this. I was just here to help Him find Mei and Jenny who were prepared and needed Him. I'm here to help Him find those who need His help!!
After the baptism I shook Mei's hand and she said the warmest most sincere "thank you" I have ever heard. I think she was more happy to see her daughter come closer to God than she was for herself. She then told me to "stay pure", basically told me after my mission to never lose my testimony. So I promised her I wouldn't.

We switched companions Sunday night to do exchanges on Monday. I was with Elder Uffland in my area so that was fun. We had a lot of success but one super cool thing that happened: We decided to go walk 40 min to a neighborhood to contact and street find and stuff, even though it was like 14 degrees outside. On the way home we decided to take a different way that was longer, I have no idea why. When we were almost home we walked past this guy and we said hi and asked how he's doing and he goes "are yall preaching?" and we said yeah and he goes "preach to me". Okay!! So we shared the Restoration with him on the street and committed him to pray about the Book of Mormon it was great. It wasn't until later in the evening we realized the spirit guided us to meet him. Had we not taken the long way home, we wouldn't have ran into him. I know the spirit guides us missionaries as we're out working and doing everything we're supposed to...even when we don't even realize in the moment we're being guided by the spirit.

Spiritual thought: While reading in Mark I found something I thought was cool. I ready Mark 1:31. Jesus heals Simon Peter's mother in law who had a fever. It says that he "lifted her up" and healed her and after she was healed "she ministered unto them". I'm not exactly sure what it means when it says she ministered unto them, but this is what I got out of it. Christ is there to heal us and "lift us up" from our pains and burdens and sorrows. After He has done that to us, we have work to do. Once we are healed we should minister and love and help those around us who are struggling. I know that Jesus Christ is there, personally and individually, for each one of us. And He will reach out his hand and lift us up from all our pains. And I also know that once He has done that for you, more blessings and joy come as you try to share the love of Christ by ministering to others.

Fun stuff:
-Elder Chinbaatar thought scissors were called cockroaches
-one family had a bunch of snakes so I held one named Precious for a while and Elder Uffland held Fluffy
-scraping snow and ice off your car early in the morning is not fun....neither is sliding all over the road because you're an Arizonan who doesn't know how to drive on ice
-I met a German Shepherd/Golden retriever mix wearing a Christmas sweater named Daisy
-my amazing mother sent me a little Christmas tree and it's already set up :) #lighttheworld
