Howdy
Last Tuesday we had our district preparation day. We went ice skating which we did last transfer too....but it was still fun. We also went to an amazing Mexican restaurant called Guadalajara...it was fantastic. That night we stopped by a nice family and talked with them for a little bit. The father is 23 and they have an almost 2 year old and a 1 month old!! I hope my brother Michael doesn't have a child before I get home....
Wednesday we did service at this new place I found. They prepare meals and deliver them to people, like elderly people. We helped wash dishes and fill up trays with food. Later that day we went out talking to people and we knocked on this guys door. He opened it and was like mouthing words to us. Started "talking" with him and came to find out that he had a stroke and at the end of the day he can't speak at all, but he can in the morning. So we set up a time to meet with him Friday morning. I know the spirit helped us communicate this him. The spirit has helped me communicate to Chinese people, a Mongolian companion, and now someone who couldn't speak at all! That night we had the assistants to the president come over, and another companionship from Laramie Wyoming, because we had zone conference Thursday. It was exciting to try to fit us all in our apartment.
Zone conference on Thursday was fantastic. It was great to see a lot of missionaries that I came out with that are in our zone now. The whole theme of zone conference was charity and love. I was thinking a lot about the love I have for my Savior Jesus christ. I love my Savior more than I can put into words on an email. Someone shared that "loyalty is love". So my loyalty to the Lord and how hard I work, how diligently I strive to talk to everyone and teach about Christ, shows my love for Him. It was a good reminder, and helped me change my perspective. Whenever I wanna sleep the thought pops into my head (which I know is from the Holy Ghost) "do I love Christ enough to get out of bed", when I see someone on the other side of the street "do I live Christ enough to cross the street and go talk to them".
Friday night we had an appointment with somebody and we walked through snow to get to their home. Nobody was there....we weren't very happy. But we both decided we should knock some doors nearby. One dude in his truck saw us and got a little mad at us and said "isn't it a too late to be doing that". But we kept going and we knocked on one lady's door who was super kind. We shared a little bit with her and set a return appointment and gave her a Book of Mormon. Im pretty sure the Lord knew the appointment would flake on us, BUT we were still needed in that area. I'm thankful we were in tune with the Spirit to guide us both to stay and knock doors instead of going home and wasting time.
Saturday it snowed ALL day, it was fun. We didn't have any appointments so we had a lot of time to go out finding and contacting people. We were walking down a main street and saw people on the other side a little ways away sledding with two little kids. It was one of those moments where the spirit told me hey you better go across the street and talk to them. Then in my mind I thought "I already have a plan of a neighborhood to go to, they'll think it's weird if we cross the street and walk straight to them, we'll have to jaywalk to get there it's dangerous would Jesus jaywalk?". Then the spirit put that question in my mind "Do I love Christ enough to go talk to those people?". We walked a little bit so they couldn't see us cross the street, then we crossed and went and talked to them. There was a single dad with his two kids and his brother and we learned that they were actually stuck in cheyenne, they had visited but their car broke and they don't have enough money or time to fix it, and they were going through a lot of other problems. They didnt want us to come over to teach them, but I think our little message and sharing Christ's love with them was something they needed. ALSO that night we decided to go over to the people who flaked on us the night before, and we were able to get in and share a message!! They even gave us hot chocolate and pumpkin pie. Everything always seems to work out as a missionary when I look back....this is the Lord's work. His plans are better than mine....His plans even got me free hot chocolate and pie.
Monday was great we had 5 appointments planned!! And only 2 flaked on us! Honestly never thought it would be so much fun to teach people. The mission is changing me. For the better :).
Spiritual thought: I read the story in Mark 4:37-41. Jesus Christ and some of the apostles are on a ship and a great storm comes and beats upon the ship and starts filling it with water. Probably pretty terrifying...ive been at Lake Powell in a houseboat that's staked to rocks when it's storming a little and it isn't fun at all....i can't imagine what it feels like to be out on the water at night in a storm with waves beating against the ship and filling it up....and and Savior is in the ship asleep on a pillow. They wake him and he arises and says "Peace, be still" and the wind ceases and there's great calm. In our lives sometimes those storms come. And it's terrifying, and we don't know what to do. Everyone will get to a point where they feel like they're on a ship in the middle of the sea tossed and turned and there is no hope. I urge all of you in that time, to turn to Jesus Christ in faith. I promise that He can bring peace back into your life. No, Jesus Christ doesn't always take the hard times away. But through him you will find peace, and give you the hope that you can make it through until you are out of the storm. And eventually you will be out, there is always hope, and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. As long as you cling to Him, the Prince of Peace. "Peace, be still".
Fun stuff:
-Elder Chinbaatar taught me how to do a rubix cube and I mastered in it 3 days (practicing during Elder Chinbaatar language study while listening talks)
-we played chair soccer last Tuesday (you have a chair you have to protect while trying to kick the ball into other people's chairs to get them out) and I was DYING im so unhealthy I felt like throwing up and passing out at the same time.
-while walking around we always end up trying to find the biggest icicles, I found one the size of the sword of Laban
-If I have to make room in my suitcases when I transfer, my slippers will be the last thing to go
-I'm getting more talented at walking on ice, I haven't slipped bad yet. Driving on ice is still a challenge....
-working at Sonic prepared me for the service I do in kitchens, washing dishes and stuff....thanks Sonic!
Pictures: pictures from zone conference, Elder Bolton and Sister Tunuufi and me (we came out together), I bought these fantastic slippers from Walmart, we took pictures in the snow because snow is fun (Elder Chinbaatar said he didn't smile because then his eyes would disappear)
