8 January 2019 - Snickers is the GOAT (literally)

Hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hello hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi

Threw you off with that random hello in there didn't I.....ANYWAY good week!!

Last Wednesday we were on exchanges with the other area of elders in our district. Me and Elder Ufland were in cornerstone and it went well. We had a couple lessons, one of which was with Mei and we taught the 10 commandments with hand signs and she thought it was hilarious.

Thursday was good, we had a lesson with a family who hasn't been to church in a while. They had a Germans Shepard and two German Shepard puppies and they were SUPER friendly. But for some reason when Elder Chinbaatar started reading a scripture the dog did NOT like it and started growling and barking at him. But we pulled it back and were able to get both of them to testify of us of the power of prayer. It was cool, all this old man said was "I don't pray very much....but when I do....yep" and just nodded his head. It's hard to explain but I knew what he meant because of the spirit that was there. It was a great lesson about a simple thing such as prayer.

The weather has been great the last few days of the week, like 50 degrees (which is warm to wyomians). So we've spent a lot of time walking around talking to people, I've learned the easiest is when they have dogs because you can just start the conversation by saying "what's your dog's name...blah blah....we're missionaries....have you heard of this book..." and boom a new person being taught. So we did that all day. Funny story, we've had a broken heater in our apartment for a while. Partially my fault because the only time I think about it is when im in the apartment early in the morning and late in the evening so the front office isn't open. BUT it's been pretty cold....like average 58 and one morning we saw 40....bad news bears. We had someone come over that morning to look at it and they're gonna get it fixed so we're okay!! But tender mercy that night we were knocking some doors and we knocked on the Elders quorum presidents door not knowing it was him. We knock on members doors a lot more than we should it's embarrassing. BUT he let us in and we shared a message with him and his wife, then somehow we mentioned our cold apartment and they sent us home with 3 space heaters! Thank goodness I accidentally knocked on his door.

Same thing Saturday, beautiful weather so lots of walking around and talking to people. Didn't see much success throughout the day, but towards the end of the night we saw the Lord bless us for our labors. We received a referral who ALREADY has an appointment for Wednesday night. Then we ran into this old lady late at night who told us she's had a terrible week and she needs all this stuff moved out of the way of her garage so she can replace a freezer that broke this week. Of course we offered to help so she told us to come back tomorrow.

 - fast forward to Sunday evening after church-

We showed up and moved the stuff for her and she was super thankful. She told us "I don't know how you guys knew I needed help....all I did was pray". And two young boys who are pros at moving heavy things for people, with Jesus Christ's name on their chest showed up AT HER DOOR! I know the Lord guides His missionaries to those who need us. She tried paying us each $5 but we refused and compromised and she took a Book of Mormon from us!

The wind on Monday was fantastic. As we were walking we would lean forward and let the wind carry us and stuff, at one point the wind stopped and I almost fell on my face. Elder Chinbaatar laughed and said "Brother bear" and if made me so happy that he's seen that movie....you rock if you get the reference and understand why he said that. Anyway we had some success but the coolest story. On Wednesday evening we were in a coordination meeting with the elders quorum counselor and relief society counselor over missionary work. We asked them both if they knew anyone we could possibly teach and we were told this one family. We stopped by the next day but nobody answered, so we just planned on going back next week. BUT on Saturday as we were walking around a member was outside so we started talking to him. Before we left we asked him if he knew of anybody that could use an uplifting message/we could stop by. He told us the SAME family our elders quorum counselor told us! So we decided to get on it and went over and found out that the father wouldn't be home until Monday. So we went back Monday night and he was super friendly and said he'll be out of town again for a week but to come back after then! Super cool that the SAME people were referred to us by completely different people. Kinda felt like the lord was a little upset with us when we put off contacting them to next week so he threw someone in our path again to tell us we NEED to go over there.

Spiritual thought: I was reminded of an awesome story as I was reading through the Book of Mormon this week. Helaman 10 teaching of what a successful missionary is. This prophet named Nephi was walking home and was pretty bummed because of the wickedness of his brethren. As he was going home a voice came unto him how blessed he is and promised from the Lord that "I will bless thee forever" because of his diligence and work in trying to declare the gospel. He is commanded to turn around and declare to the people that they need to repent. Verse 12 mentioned that he stopped immediately and did not go to his own home and went and did what he was told to do. The people STILL hardened their hearts and didn't listen to him and tried to grab him to throw him into prison. He was saved by the spirit and taken from multitude to multitude and preached until everyone had heard the word of God. But still none of them hearkened unto his words and they remained wicked. Not a single person listened to a thing they said, yet the Lord told him how great he was and how he will be blessed forever. It is because of his faithfulness and how dedicated he was to the lord and keeping his commandments. He gave EVERY person a chance to repent and tried his hardest and followed the commandments of God, that is what made him successful. This spirituak thought hits home for me, but I know it's important for everyone! Be a missionary, share the light of christ. Wether or not you're accepted isn't what makes you successful, as my mission president says "the success is in the invitation".

Fun stuff:
-the lady who's prayer we answered....im pretty sure she had over 100 chihuahuas...it was crazy....
-I lost my tag at the chihuahua farm....i still have a pocket tag but at the moment I'm waiting on a replacement magnet tag....its okay thought because I wore Elder Chinbaatars extra to dinner on Sunday night and nobody noticed
-on Monday in the 10000mph wind these two kids zoomed past us, sitting on their skateboards and letting the wind push them
-some members were playing monkey in the middle with a rubber chicken squeaker toy when we went over to eat dinner with them

Pictures:
-I made friends with another chicken...ive perfected the skill at catching birds. (peep my taco John's visor)
-this is snickers the goat he's the best....also if you look closely you'll see snot dripping from my nose because it's cold :)
-the Plan of salvation that I made....stole the idea from another missionary who probably stole it from someone else. (if you can't tell it spells "LOVE")
-I promise there's a reason I had to wear this outfit and I felt beautiful
