HOWDY!!
Ignore the subject, if you know you know. Another GREAT week.
It has been FREEZING here and I don't know why, but somehow I'm still alive. Last Tuesday we knew we wanted to contact some people, but weren't exactly sure who. Somehow we ended up knocking on this guy's door who hasn't been contacted by missionaries in 10 months, and he was there. He let us in and we talked for about 30 minutes about crazy stuff going on in his life. We taught him a little bit, but mostly we were there to listen. He was totally alone....well....I know he wasn't alone. His Heavenly Father was there looking out for him and his savior 100% is there for him. I know we were led to this man's house. Hopefully we can continue to meet with him, but just that night would be a testimony to him that God loves him.
Thursday we had a cool experience. A little bit ago someone called saying missionaries once gave her the number and said call if she ever needed anything. Apparently her husband can Shovel snow anymore and she doesn't have any family in town to help, so she told us to email her "because she can't hear the phone ring anymore". So we emailed her the morning it snowed and set up a time to stop by. We went by and started shoveling and she came out and started talking with us and she was trying SO HARD to give us money but we told her all she needs to do to say thanks is say thanks!! She just kept saying "God is good" over and over. It was super sweet to see her recognize the greatness of God through our good works.
Friday night we had an amazing lesson with this girl we've been teaching. She mentioned that when we left her home last time that she felt super happy, like so happy that she wanted to giggle. She has totally felt the Holy Ghost! It was super cool to testify to her of that, and the lesson was amazing. We were in a members home and we talked about the plan of salvation and when we left she stayed and talked with the members for another hour and a half.
Saturday we went on exchanges with our zone leaders which was a fun time. I spent the day with Elder Halladay (he's from Gilbert, some of my friends from there may know him he went to Perry High). It was a successful day we talked to almost 50 people by the end of the day. The first lesson of the morning was powerful. It was with a poor woman who just lost her father tragically. We talked about the gospel of Jesus christ and she basically decided for herself that she needed to be baptized. I just love being a missionary and meeting with many different individuals and KNOWING and FEELING that Heavenly Father loves them INDIVIDUALLY. And that He has a plan specifically for them.
Sunday was great as always. We had a lesson with a guy we met with last Sunday at a Laundromat. There's a sewage problem at his house and his wife has been terrified thinking they might lose their house because they were told it could cost Mucho money to fix and they can't afford it. We talked about faith last Sunday and he mentioned how he has faith things will be okay and they won't have to move. When we say him this Sunday he was super excited and told us good news. They found the right plumber apparently and it is only going to cost them $250!!! He was super excited and said he almost texted us that week to tell us. He is doing good, he also mentioned after the lesson when we asked how he felt that he felt calm. Apparently he was kinda stressed and had a lot to do and didn't really want to meet with us that day, but after our conversation and reading the scriptures he felt calm and happy. The. Holy. Ghost. Is. Awesome.
Monday I was on exchanges with an elder in my disrtict, Elder Michelsen. He's from Canada and has the best country-Canadian accent ever. We talked with everyone we saw. One guy we drove up next to and rolled the window down and talked to told us that he has been kicked out of temple Square 3 times....apparently he was giving his own tours.
Spiritual thought: I read this phrase while reading in the Book of Mormon this week and I thought it was interesting. Alma 3:11 "believed in the commandments of God and kept them". I don't know if it talks about "believing in the commandments" anywhere else and I was interested in what that meant. In the same sentence it said "kept them" so it didn't mean that. I continued to ponder this and personally came to the conclusion that believing in the commandments mean we trust and have FAITH that keeping the commandments with bless my life. Sometimes we keep the commandments, but not always willingly. If we believe the commandments we show faith in them and even if we don't know how we will be blessed, we know we will be blessed. I promise that God knows what he is doing. He is truly our loving Heavenly father and wants us to be happy. Follow the commandments and trust you will be happier. I have met many people here on my missions who's lives have fallen apart because they don't have or follow the commandments. Commandments enrs that we may think are keeping us from having fun. I promise those commandments are the best thing ever.
Fun stuff:
-me and Elder Halladay rewarded ourselves Saturday night with nacho fries from taco bell for talking to so many people
-there's a missing window in our apartment, there's just a cardboard box covering it
-our phone wouldn't charge when we got in the truck one night because it was too cold???
-Im a professional snow shoveler now
Pictures
-we were out knocking and talking to people and this random puppy started following us. We became a trio, probably helped us talk to people.
-someone who works for an ice cream company gave us tons and tons of free ice cream
-this dog laid like a dead cockroach in front of us so we started stacking things on its belly
-I love ice cream
