13 August 2019 - Bye Beecher

Good stuff this last week.

Last Tuesday was Elder Halladays last preparation day ever. So that was super weird, this week was kinda different with him going home and some other stuff. But it was a fun time. On Wednesday we were on exchanges, but spent most of the day together because we had meetings then service then dinner together. But we split up after dinner and it was good, I was with Elder Ratliff who actually goes home 2 weeks into next transfer. So he's almost done and he knows a lot and teaches super well. We had a good time.

Thursday was AWESOME. Brian, who recently got baptized, drove down to Fort Collins with us and we went and did baptisms for the dead with him. Before we went into the temple we helped him find some family names, one of which was his great grandpa. You could tell how much being Baptized for his greats grandpa meant to him, the spirit was SO strong. Also another cool thing, Brian baptized me and Elder Halladay! On elder Fazars (my last companion that went home) last day he baptized Brian. And on elder Halladays last day Brian baptized him. Honestly that was one of the happiest experiences on my mission. Then he took us to BJs and we had some good food and drove home. We got home and did some stuff, stopped by some families that Elder Halladay wanted to say peace out to. Then that night missionaries driving through from Casper and Laramie picked up elder Halladay and took him to Colorado.

When he left I was with the Buffalo Ridge Elders (Elder Ratliff and Elder Magleby) and as I said elder Ratliff goes home 2 weeks into the next transfer. Every departing group goes to the temple and spends the day with the mission president on friday, before they all fly home on Sunday. So Elder Ratliff was invited to that and we drove him down to the mission home in the morning. Then of course before coming back up we stopped through canes. We had a good day after we got back to Cheyenne but we had to leave again around 7:30 to go down and pick him back up. We were a little early (might have been the plan) so we drove through Dutch bros in FOCO. Then we went to get Elder Ratliff from the mission home around 9 BUT they weren't done with their last testimony meeting yet. It was kinda awkward to walk in and be there with all the missionaries going home, but it was also super cool to be able to hear their testimonies and feel the spirit there. I said bye to Elder Halladay who was there, and we drove back up to Cheyenne.

I spent Saturday with Elder Ratliff and Elder Magleby, kinds going to be a weird week because I pretty much have no assigned companion for a week and a half. We went to 2 baptisms for 8 year Olds Saturday morning and shared a thought/message while the kids and the person who baptized then got changed. That was fun and super cool because there were some people who weren't members of our church there, BUT they totally enjoyed it which was Coolio to see. That evening we helped this lady named Lenna move. She isn't a member, but she has a friend that's a member that got a hold of us to help her. She moved here from Detroit for her kids and is a single mother with lots of children. We spent a few hours lifting stuff, I again realized how much I hate moving washing machines. BUT she tried paying us after and we wouldn't take it. We told her that the thing that makes us happiest is sharing our message with others and she just looked at us and said "I don't believe that". And the whole time she was blown away that we would give up prime time of our lives to do this. She said that she usually wouldn't listen to people talk about God because she has her own beliefs, but she said she'd listen to us because of how blown away she was by us. I'm excited to see what happens Wednesday when they go back over!

Sunday was a long tiring day, it started with a meeting at 7am then 3 sacrament meetings. Then that night I switched companions from Elder Ratliff and Magleby to Elder Plumb and Jones. They're the Capitol Hill Elders and I'm going to spend most of the time with them BUT some times I have to be with the Buffalo Ridge Elders. It's very confusing and I'm just kinda alone trying to figure things out

Fun stuff:
-story time: on Monday we were in Capitol hills area, which is downtown Cheyenne. There's this super sketchy park that we drive by and Elder plumb yelled "GOATS". There was randomly in this pit just tons and tons of goats, so of course I pulled over and we went to see. I was so confused there were SO MANY goats in the middle of downtown Cheyenne. So we took a selfie with the goats, then Elder plumb yelled "ANTS" and crawling all over our legs are a million red ants so we freaked out and brushed them off. Then we saw a car battery hooked up to the fence and realized it was a super ghetto electric fence. And the whole time there was just these homeless people chilling by a Porta potty watching us. ALSO Elder plumb started taking a vlog and while he was filming I saw a snake by his feet and yelled "SNAKE". It was such a strange situation I don't know what was happening.
-I drove back and forth from FOCO a few times this week and I'm still blown away by how much roadkill there is
-I'm going to be out of money because Im probably going back to Fort Collins this week and I can't not buy food there

Spiritual thought: I read Jacob 1:4 this week and I thought it was pretty interesting. Nephi had written all of the Book of Mormon up to this point, but is going to die so the job of keeping a record is passed to nephis younger brother Jacob. The first part of Jacob he is just explaining what he keeps a record of and why he keeps the record. That's when verse 4 comes in. "And if there were preaching which was sacred, or revelation which was great, or prophesying, that I should engraven the heads of them upon these plates, and touch upon them as much as it were possible, for Christ’s sake, and for the sake of our people." So he keeps a record of sacred things and revelations and of course he does it for the peoples sake. He did it for us, so we could have scriptures today and learn and come closer to Christ. But before he says it's for the people he says he does it" for Christ's sake". It's for Christ first. It relates to me being a missionary as well I think. I'm out here for the people I'm going to teach, and I'm especially here for myself. I truly have seen a big change in myself and I'm SO grateful for what I've become so far and can't imagine my life without my mission. But I'm also here "for Christ sake". Jesus christ truly did take upokg himself all our pains, sins, and weaknesses. He really did suffer, bleed, and die for us, so everyone can live again. I know this and because I know this I have an obligation to Him to share. He did do what he did so the least I can do is share what He's done with those who dont know or don't take advantage of the miraculous gift Jesus Christ has given us, His Atonement. For Christ's sake.
