Its been an exciting week. Before I get into everything I'll let you know what the transfer dealio is! I'm staying here in Cheyenne which I assumed would happen, and I'm getting elder Huntsman as my companion! I'm super stoked. Elder Huntsman came out with my group last year and this is the first time I've had a companion that I'm not his last companion and I'm not training him. Also he's been in cheyenne this last transfer in a different ward and was my district leader so we've worked together recently. It's gonna be good stuff. ALSO when I 2nd transfer trained Elder Buchanan, Elder Huntsman was the elder who 1st ransfer trained him.
So this last week was crazy. On Wednesday we woke up early and drove down to Brighton Colorado (out of our mission boundaries) to take an Elder to an appointment. We came home through FOCO and stopped at canes and that made me happy. We got home and I was super tire for driving and just wanted to sleep but LUCKILY my two companions were ready to go out and work so I was able to stay awake and bring people to christ. We went out and talked to some people, ended up lifting up an entire dog cage thing, then ran to a Bible study with a bunch of people from a different church. It was an interesting day but super fun.
Thursday was a good day. We had a meeting that morning over Skype and usually those aren't good because it's hard to pay attention or know what's going on BUT it was actually super good. Later in that day we went and walked around this huge park that's in cheyenne. It's called Holliday Park and it's in Capitol hills area (I've been with the Capitol Hill Elders) and I finally had the opportunity to go walk around and street contact there so we did. It was a good time, we talked to a bunch of bikers that are coming through to/from a big biker event. We actually met this couple from France and they were the coolest people ever. The lady barely spoke English but we were talking and she asked "why do you have to books" which was a perfect question to lead into teaching her about the Restoration of the gospel. It was a fun time.
Friday was an even crazier day than Wednesday. There was another appointment but this time in DOWNTOWN DENVER. The first time in a year that I've seen buildings over 5 floors. Also kinda scary driving around downtown Denver after living in Cheyenne and Riverton WY for a year. After the appointment we stopped and got Krispy Kreme because there is none in our mission and we wouldn't let this opportunity go. We got back to Cheyenne a little later than we did on Wednesday but we still had time to work and I was still dead tired but SOMEHOW the Lord blessed me with energy. But I definitely passed out when bedtime came.
Sunday was great! This girl who recently got baptized, Jamie, brought her friend with her to church! His name is Angelo and he was super cool. He told us that he hasn't been in church in forever and that he was super nervous. Picture this: a big guy wearing a tank top with tons of tats who has been in gangs his whole life....nervous to be in church. We brought him to Sunday school and he loved it and made amazing comments. A lot of people afterward walked up to him and thanked him for sharing his thoughts. It was super cool to see and all thanks to Jamie for being an awesome missionary!
Monday was a good day, we walked around a lot because our miles are dead from driving to Denver twice in one week. But it was nice to walk around and talk to people. Never sounds fun, but you go out and do it and you end up being super happy and enjoy it, the spirit definitely comes and testifies to you that what you're doing is good. That evening we had a last district Council with sunrise District before transfers. We went to the bird farm and sat around a fire. This time it wasn't a huge bonfire so we could actually make smores without burning our faces off. Good times. Something I realized while sitting there and sometime I'm so grateful for is the love of God the Lord has allowed me to have. I just love so many people here. All these missionaries I serve with, I would have never met before had I never gone on a mission, but im here and I've only known them for a short time. But I love them so much. All the people I'm teaching, especially those who have progressed so far like Jamie and Brian. Never would have met these people and if I did I probably never would be good friends with them but I have been blessed with this opportunity to be on a mission and love these people. The pure love a christ really is a gift and honestly it doesn't make sense to me, it "passeth all understanding" that I love these people so much. I am so grateful that I've been gifted the gift to really love these people.
Spiritual thought:
I read this in 1 Timothy 2:3-4 yesterday, "God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth." The footnote for "will" changed it to "desires". I know that the truth is that our Heavenly Father does desire ALL his children to know this truth and to be saved and return to Him and have all that He has. There isn't a child of God who he doesn't love. There isn't a single should who Jesus Christ hasn't performed the Atonement for and who He doesn't love and extend his arm out to. One of my favorite verses in the book of mormon comes from Jacob 6:5. "cleave unto God as he cleaveth unto you and whole his arm of mercy is extended towards you in the light of day, harden not your hearts". Then in verse 6 it says "for why will ye die?". Why will ye die? Why will you not grab the out reached arm if mercy from your Savior. Why will you not cleave unto God as he Already cleaves do you. I promise and I testify that our Heavenly Father and our Savior have done all the can for their vineyard. They've done and do all they can for us because they love and God's work and glory truly is to have all his children know and accept the gospel. He is no respecter of persons. He loves you and everyone perfectly and individually and pleads to have you accept His gospel. And to accept His mercy. We don't deserve it but Heavenly Father is so loving and so merciful and He wants you to accept what He has ALREADY done for you.
Fun stuff:
-it was a normal morning last Thursday. We got some Elders together and were playing some basketball for exercise as usual. Then it happened. The ball was passed to Elder Trumbo, Elder Jones blocked it and hit it up so it went over elder Trumbos head. The ball slowly yet quickly bounced towards the red fire alarm on the wall. "Push in and pull down" was written on it, and although a basketball shouldn't be able to push in and pull, it did exactly that. The ball smashed against the alarm pushing it in and pulling it down and the alarm was sent. The whole building screeched with the sound of those alarms, the white flashing lights flashed into our eyes. We scrambled to restet it, to turn it off, to do anything...but to no avail. The fire department came and we had to tell them the sad truth. Elder Milius was on fire in basketball today....and our game was too lit....
-We had to pay for parking in Denver, it was kinda fun to be able to PAY to park again. Although it wasn't fun to lose money
-I ate some spicy ramen Sunday night. It was pretty bad but I continued eating it and was in pain for a while afterwards
