Someone tell me how to start emails because I really don't know how,
It's been a good week! Last Tuesday it was CRAZY cold, single digits and I aren't friends. But the Lord blessed us, as miserable as it was to be in the cold, the warmth of the spirit led us to where we needed to be. Contacted thus cool lady who told us to come back next week.
Monday was an interesting day. We were able to teach Emmanuel who is doing GREAT. He is honestly one of the most elect people I've seen on my mission, he truly hears the voice of the Lord and doesn't harden his heart. We did hit a few roadblocks with him this week though, and I'm been making the Lord weary with my prayers in his behalf. If any of you would like to pray for him that'd be great! Every time a leave a lesson with him I feel spiritually rejuvenated. Went from that to our ward trunk or treat. Except because everything was covered in snow and it was FREEZING cold outside each family took a classroom in the church building and passed out candy from the door... Its also not that big if a building. Our ward meets in a town called Lyons Colorado, we don't even meet in Longmont!
Halloween was spooky....not really....halloween was different. We spent the day at a couple meetings then had to be in our apartments by 6pm and we did some planning and goal setting until night. But it was cool to think about that on that day a year ago in 2018 I was spending my first day with my 2nd companion Elder Chinbaatar!
Friday we were on exchanges with a couple Elders. I spent the day with Elder Teter and again we got the short end of the stick and ended up without a car. So we walked and spent a lot of time talking with everyone we saw. Definitely some people that the Lord needed us to meet that day.
Saturday we took a drive to a random small town in our area called Jamestown Colorado. It's in the middle of the mountains and it was a strange little place. Most of the people up there were Buddhists or pot smokers. All really nice people! One of the first people we talked to was this really nice Buddhist lady. She told us she wasn't interested but one thing led to another and we were sitting on her porch talking about how our beliefs are so similar but we just understand the importance of God and Jesus Christ. She actually has a son who joined our Church and that son was visiting her the next day. We will see what happens, but I think the Lord has some plans for her. What are the chances a set of missionaries visit her small little town and talk to her and give her a book of mormon the day before her son can come over and talk to her more!
Sunday flew by with meeting and assignments and things to do as always. Then Monday flew by as well, we had a meeting in Windsor that took a big chunk of the day. Finished off the night with a lesson with Emmanuel and it was super good. Still some stresses (as there always are when trying to prepare someone for baptism). But it was a good way to finish off the week! Lots of ups and downs, but it must needs be that there is an opposition in all things.
Spiritual thought:
I read Alma 46:6 this week and it stuck out to me a lot. "Thus they were led away by Amalickiah to dissensions, notwithstanding the preaching of Helaman and his brethren, yea, notwithstanding their exceedingly great care over the church, for they were high priests over the church." Helaman and his Brethren are awesome, way better teachers and leaders than I will ever be. Despite all their amazing work, people still fell away and dissented. I love the phrase "notwithstanding their exceedingly great care over the church". They cared so much for the church, they put in all the work they could to keep thr members of the church on thr right path. But people still fell away. Brought me a lot of comfort and direction this week. When it comes to teaching or ministering to others, especially those we have stewardship over. We need to put in all the work we can, show exceedingly great care. And if after all of that, they still fall away, it wasn't our fault. We do have our agency. Keep trying your best, take "exceedingly great care" of them and despite what happens, you will feel confident, by manifestation of the Spirit, that the Lord is pleased with you and you did not fail.
Fun stuff:
-we showed up to Windsor a little early for our meeting, and there is a Dutch bros on the way. So naturally we stopped by and got some. I would probably have more food if I didn't spent so much extra money on things like this.
-me and Elder Brimley switched name tags at the trunk or treat as our "costumes". It made a lot of people really confused because we kinda look similar. One person even came up to me and said "hey Elder Brimley" and started talking to me and I NEVER TOLD HIM. So now he awkwardly thinks I'm Elder Brimley and someday he'll find out and I'll feel really bad.
-there is this trail that we often walk, and there are always tons and tons of Prairie dogs. With the snow, we've been throwing snowballs at them, but have never hit one. It's crazy how fat they are, get they can move pretty quick. Idk what I'll do if I ever hit one, probably feel really bad and need to repent.
-in Jamestown there's tons of signed everywhere about bear proofing your home and stuff. Also instead of dear crossing signs they have bear crossing signs, kinda crazy.
Thanks for reading, if you finished this whole email, here is a high five for you 🖐🏻
Pictures
-we found these cool paintings on this person garage...knocked on her door right after we took these pictures and she rejected us....
