19 February 2019 - Zone Conference with the friendly ghost

Aloha

Good week in Riverton!! Last Wednesday I went on exchanges with Elder Skinner. If you're a longtime reader of THE Elder Milius emails, you know that I was companions with him and his companion in cheyenne when my trainer went home before I got Elder Chinbaatar. It was great. We planned on going to do service at this thrift shop in the morning and went by and they said to come back in an hour. So we decided to go contact some people and I felt like going to see this guy we met a little bit ago in his car on the street. We stopped by and he was home and actually let us in and we were able to teach him! The Lord's hand was in all of it, from us not doing service when he was home, to bring led to his house, to teaching him!

Thursday night we got packed up and headed to Casper for Zone conference. Casper is about 2 hours away and that was a painful drive. After a day of Missionary work, driving through the dark in the middle of nowhere. I know the Lord kept me awake... We got there and spent the night at some Elders place in Casper. In the morning we went to zone conference and it was FANTASTIC. Funny story, in the middle of zone conference every missionary got an email saying there are changes to communication with family!! In the middle of zone Conference as my mission president was speaking it was hilarious. We took a break for lunch and he sat at our table and answered some of our questions. President McMurray is great! When that finished we had to drive home and be home before 7:30 because we had an appointment with someone then! Later that night around 8:50 we were driving home and passed a house we have been trying to contact recently. Both of us felt impressed to go try again even though our day was basically over. We knocked and they were home! Super friendly and I know the Lord knew they were home and knew we would find success working until the last minute of the day. He always seems to bless us in the last moment after our faiths been tested. Ether 12:6.

Saturday we saw a lot of little miracles. The first person we saw as we went outside was Ryan, a guy we just started teaching. We knocked on his car window and he started talking to us and said "I forgot to ask, where is your church located". We totally blanked and didnt invite him to church the last time we saw him, but the Lord provided and placed him right outside our apartment basically. Later we were across the street from these guys we saw that were getting into their cars. Both of us failed and ignored the prompting to go talk to them. Then we heard a car taking a whole to start and get going. So we were like....well there we go we better go talk to them now. We ran over right before one backed our and met Seth. He said come back in an hour so we did and had a great conversation!

Monday we saw a huge miracle. Sunday we were dead out of gas, but we did everything we could to NOT buy gas on the Sabbath, by walking and everything. Monday morning we went straight to a gas station and got gas. Now back story: a while ago we were walking around and saw these 3 kids unloading stuff from a truck and we went and talked with them. Ended up teaching about the Book of Mormon and helped one download the app. There was one kid that didn't seem interested at all, named Michael. We asked him if we could give him a Book and he said he already had one. Fast forward to Monday. I was getting gas while Elder Buchanan tried talking to the person next to us and failed. I got in the car to record car info and Michael, the kid who wasn't interested a long time ago, ran up to elder Buchanan and said "hey are you those guys we met a few weeks ago, can I get one of those books!". WHAT! So many miracles from that experience. Keeping the sabtah day holy, talking to everyone weeks ago, inviting everyone, trying to talk to people at the gas station, then this kid comes up and hopefully we start teaching him!

Spiritual thought: At Zone Conference our theme was repentance. At one point someone was telling a story about how the song "I am a child of God" used to say "teach me all that I must KNOW" and it was changed to "teach me all that I must DO" and when this person's old mother sang it she sang "teach me all that I must BE". We have to do more than just know, we have to DO. But even that isn't enough, we must BE. Going back to what I talked about last week. We can keep commandments but we can do more. We can believe in them, and we can BECOME a different person by following them with a willing heart. I have seen on my mission many people BECOME "new creatures" through Jesus Christ (Mosiah 27:25-26). There is true joy in becoming a Saint rather than just doing the things a Saint does, and I promise that.

Fun stuff:
-we have a quesodilla maker and we wondered if we could use it to make waffles. So we made pancake/waffle/quesodilla things
-we met a deaf lady and tried talking to her. I saw her do the sign for "Jesus Christ" and I nodded and I'm not really sure how (I am sure how, through the spirit of the Lord) but we ended up giving her a Book of Mormon and telling her to text us!
-we walked up to these people sitting in their car listening to country music. I asked him a question of the soul, what brings you peace in this life? And he said music and I ended up referencing a country song he knew and teaching about prayer
-shout out to Elliot Groves teachers quorum who sent me a valentines day package, love you all!
