5 March 2019 - Elder Fischer (fisher of men)

Howdy!

First things first transfers are Wednesday and I'M STAYING. And my entire district is ALL staying! So either we are doing really good work here, OR we haven't done what we are supposed to do so we have to stay until we do that. It is super exciting though, and there are only 2 districts in the Riverton Zone and only 1 person is leaving from the other disrtict. So pretty much all except 1 OD the original RIVERTON ZONE are staying for another 6 weeks!

Last Tuesday we had a miracle!! We went over to talk to a really sweet lady with the coolest New Orleans accent. She apparently has met with missionaries a lot in the past for the last 14 years she's been in Riverton. We ended up finding our she's never been offered a Book of Mormon!! Super crazy that she's never been offered one by the many times she's met with missionaries, so we gave her one and are super excited to meet with her again. I know there is power in that Book, it is a witness of Christ, a foundation of testimony, and contains the fulness of Doctrine of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Which makes it sad when people refuse to read it, such as a really friendly Baptist preacher who won't read it because "he doesn't read witchcraft". So we were super happy to give the book of mormon to her and she traded us and gave us two jars of homemade salsa!

On Wednesday we had 8 lessons planned!! One at 12:30, then district Council at 1-2:30, then an appointment at 2:30, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8pm. It was eventful. Not all of then worked out, BUT the appointment at 2:30 was amazing. We met this lady walking down the street one day and set up this appointment, then Wednesday morning we ran into her AGAIN. We saw her and didn't realize it was her and went and talked to her and she said "I'm meeting with you guys today". Super awkward but cool that the Lord led us to her AGAIN. The lessons was really great and she was super excited about the Restoration and interested in Joseph smith and everything!

Wednesday we met another super cool guy while just walking. We went back that evening and shared a message with him and his wife. They are super active in their church but really open to what we had to share, it was fantastic! Her father is even a preacher at their church, but they are so willing to learn, and are even considering missing their church one Sunday to come to ours! It was a miracle to meet and start teaching 4 new people in just a few days!

Saturday morning we went to a baptism for a super cool kid named Tyberious. He is 9 years old and we've met him before, totally understands the importance of baptism and everything. That was fun, then we had some great lessons later that night.

Sunday was a good day, we spent a lot of time out walking (it's still freezing and it's super weird that I'm so happy as I'm out freezing my tail off). We met a lot of people and actually ended up near someone's house who we stopped trying to contact because they never answer the door. Well I saw them walking in! So we ran up and talked to them and set up an appointment! The spirit ALWAYS leads us to where we need to be as long as we are out doing our job and trying our best. That is something I have really been trying to work on, gaining the Lord's trust. I trust the Lord and have faith he can help me. But does the Lord trust me to help and teach and take care of his children? As I'm doing my best, opening my mouth, and working as hard as I can the Lord trusts me and leads me to the people who are ready!

Monday we had a "zone meeting" in Lander with the other district. Super inspiring, we are all ready to work even harder this transfer, with everyone (except one) staying! A member of the stake presidency always goes to that with us (he is actually the guy who owns the place we live in) and he mentioned to us that the first time he met with the missionaries like this, we have at least doubled and tripled some of the numbers we record as missionaries. (new people, people at sacrament meeting, etc. ). And it was just amazing to see how many lives we are touching and how many of Gods children we are bringing closer to Him and to Christ as we have the faith sufficient to allow Him to help us. I am so excited to stay here in Riverton and keep doing my best and earning my pillow every night!

Spiritual thought: Kinda a different spiritual thought this week. We have a district chat that we use and the other day I sent this message in accompanied with a picture of Elder Fischer (for the picture of Elder Fischer scroll down to the pictures I sent with this). "This is Elder Fischer. Like Elder Fischer and the apostles of old, you too can be a "fisher" of men. (Matthew 4:19). We must preach the gospel to "every creature", including the creatures in the depths of the sea. (D&C 58:64/112:28/124:128/others). We are fishers and hunters. Whether they be in the heights of the mountains, in the depths of the sea, or in the snowy cold of Riverton Wyoming, we must find them! (Jeremiah 16:16). If you notice Elder Fischer is holding a treasure box. This represents the treasures in heaven for those who do the Lord's work. (Matthew 6:20). These treasures and blessings are more great than any treasures you can find in this fallen world. (D&C 19:38). This treasure also can represent the Book of Mormon and Gospel that we declare to the world. Use these treasures and share them with all you see, they are worth more than anything. Elders and Sisters, I urge you to be like Elder Fischer. But more than being like Elder Fischer we must be as Christ (3 Nephi 27:27), serve as he did, be diligent, be loving, be obedient, and in the end you will have you reward. Teach with power, and let your testimonies be a light unto the world. (3 Nephi 12:16). #RIVERTONZONE #LOVE #OBEDIENCE #DILIGENCE #TEACHING #TESTIMONIES"

Fun stuff:
-I remember one time reading an email from my brother that mentioned talking to girls on his mission and how he tried to make sure they knew he wasn't flirting with them or something and I thought it was dumb.... It happened this week. We pulled the car up to these people we saw and after we said "hi how are you doing" we realized they were young high school cheerleaders. Super weird, having yak 18 year olds pull up to these girls on the side of the road... we gave them our number though!
-we went by these members one night and shared a missionary lesson with them. We left the house with 2 bags of grapes and strawberries, bananas, oranges, chocolate covered almonds, and two bottles of juice.
-we got a call from the other Elders Saturday morning asking for help. The baptismal font wasn't filling up quick enough and the baptism was in an hour so they were filling up pitchers and pots from the kitchen and filling the font up, so we went and helped. It worked out but tiberious said the water felt like "-1 degrees"
-we rode our bikes Thursday because it was like 40 degrees (which us super nice, it got back down to freezing this weekend). We left them outside the church building when we went in for something and came out and they were gone....i don't know what we were thinking....according to some members the Walmart in Riverton is pretty much the most robbed Walmart in the nation. The police assign an officer to just walk around Walmart all night.
