23 July 2019 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY GAVIN

Howdy Partners

It's been a great week and this next week is going to be great.

Last Wednesday was good, we had a bunch of random stuff that we had to dl like taking a couch to a dump. We didn't know where the dump was but we just called up our recent convert, Brian, and he helped us out. We had a couple meetings that day, and actually ran into president Palmer who is doing great. Honestly props to that man he is busy out of his mind coming into a mission as a new mission president. That evening we had a lesson with brian and it was super fun we taught him the plan of salvation and truly it is one of the happiest lessons to teach.

Thursday we drove up to Nebraska for a District Council with winter Creek district. It was a fun time and the drive there and back me and Elder Halladay listened to some pretty legit lectures on Joseph Smith by Truman Madsen. That evening we got back and were able to have a lesson with this girl we're teaching. She's struggling with a lot BUT we are trying tk help her to be baptized this Saturday the 27th. She knows everything she needs to and wants it, just struggles with addiction. But I know without a doubt that the gift of the holy ghost will help her. Later in the week she actually asked me if when hands are laid upon her head, some of her trials will go away. I didn't promise her that her trials will go away, but I did assure her that God wouldn't give her any trial that she couldn't overcome. Those with many many trials are stronger, and I promised her that when she receives the gift of the Holy Ghost that it will help and she will see and feel a difference. That was pretty fun and felt awesome.

Friday was my mom's birthday HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM I LOVE YOU. I was able to talk to her while munching on a hot dog at Sam's club. We also stopped by someone struggling with smoking and gave them some gum to help and she was super appreciative it was cool. Then that evening is when CHEYENNE FRONTIER DAYS started! We met with a guy that day to figure things out and what we were doing and then that evening we went over to help. If you don't know what CFD is, it's a pretty huge event that Cheyenne does every year and people come from all over and every night there's concerts with some pretty big names, even Post Malone is gonna be here Thursday. We help out with tickets and let people in, so we showed up that night. Dressed up in "western casual" because that's the dress code for the workers. It's been a fun time. Every morning and night there's a shift and out of the 8 companionships in the city of cheyenne, everyone gets to go every day.

Saturday morning we were in the parade. They have 4 parades, but the first Saturday and the last Saturday are the biggest. We dressed up as "Mormon pioneers" and pulled a couple handcarts and threw out root beer candy. Pretty legit parade with real carriages and horses and stuff, scary to try to dodge the horse poop mines.

Sunday was a pretty amazing day. Our recent convert, Brian, received the Aaronic Priesthood! He truly is amazing and it was one of the happiest times of my mission seeing that happen. He was a little hesitant until he was told that receiving the Priesthood would allow him to serve others more.

Monday there was a huge pancake breakfast. Every day there isn't a parade there's free pancakes at the train depot, so you best believe the Elders will be there. Free food. It was a legit thing. They were mixing the batter in a cement mixer and cooking pancakes on a chuck wagon and literally chucking the pancakes in the air and a bunch of kids had to try to catch them on pans. After that we had a lesson that morning with the person trying to get baptized this Saturday. It went super well, her interview is Wednesday so we'll see, pray for her! The rest or the day was fun, we had the morning shift for CFD while the rodeo was happening and with my volunteer badge may or may not have gotten in to watch some bull riding and cattle roping.

Fun stuff:
-someone gave me a $15 gift card to taco bell for nacho fries (thank you, you're the best). I received it on Monday I believe, and by Thursday this week it was gone....
-while collecting tickets, I may or may not have heard from the LOUD stadium  Midland, Kelsea Ballerini, and Clint Black. Also we may or may not have been in charge of the schedule and placed ourselves on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.
-we have a mini van and taxi people around all the time, so one night we had to switch some Elders for exchanges.i put on my cowboy hat, Elder Halladay and Elder Ratliff had theirs. Then we showed up to pick up Elder huntsman and else plumb and Elder huntsman had his hat on. THEN we show up to the other Elders and Elder Jones is wearing his cowboy hat.....we were prepared for Frontier days

Spiritual thought: I LOVE the scriptures and have studied and learned and come to love a lot of stuff this past week. But yesterday I found this cool scripture and I'll share this one. Roman's 12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Don't be conformed, but we transformed. I've luckily been on a mission and been blessed with an amazing opportunity to be transformed by the gospel. At some points in my life I chose rather to conform and to please the world and that is never the way to find happiness. Through the gospel and through Jesus christ, through continual nourishment by the scriptures, praying ALWAYS, the gospel changes you and transforms you into a better person and disciple of Jesus Christ. The key to happiness and success isn't to conform, its to be transformed.
