30 July 2019 - My Father Came Through

Brethren and Sisteren

Good week in Cheyenne Wyoming....weird how about a year ago I was saying the same thing!

Last Tuesday we hung out with our district, ate BWW and had a dandy TIME. But that night made Tuesday amazing. We had a dinner set up with this super cool girl from a dry cleaners place. A while ago we went in and got some suits cleaned and just talked with her and apparently she really liked us. Some members of our ward went in later and she talked about us and somehow these awesome members mentioned how she could feed us dinner if she wanted and she agreed and said she'd totally hear a message from us. So fail on our part for not offering our message in the fire rolace, but the Lord provides! She is just a single mother so she had us meet her at a park to eat because we couldn't go into her home alone. She accidentally picked the sketchiest park in the city and people kept walking up to the picnic table and asking for food. It was very interesting. Luckily every 10 minutes a police car drove by....unfortunately during the lesson an interesting lady took her pants off and started playing basketball....long story. So super unfortunate situation and difficult to teach BUT it worked out! We had planned on sharing the plan of salvation because that's what we felt, and before we shared we asked her if she had any questions about us. She asked where we believe people go after we die. Apparently she recently had a family member pass. It went perfect, and she was so excited to hear our message and learn and she told us she believed basically all of it before we even told her. It was a good time. And her 10 year old son was there and we played basketball with him a little bit before we boogied out of there because we felt unsafe.

We were on exchanges with Elder Tate and Elder Huntsman on Wednesday. Cool story, this lady were teaching named Jamie was taught by Elder huntsman in rawlins before she moved to Cheyenne. So somehow it worked out perfectly that the day we had jamies baptismal interview scheduled, we were on exchanges. And turned out to be a huge miracle and to make a long story short, Elder huntsman needed to be there. Jamie passed her baptismal interview and was SO happy and SO excited to be baptized.

Cool story for Thursday. Every day this week we've been working at Cheyenne Fronteir days, and Thursday was a pretty big day. That evening, the concert made CFD history with selling out and selling out in the shortest amount of time. It was Post Malone if you know who that is, so it was kinda crazy town. A super cool Elder in our zone prayed, even though it would be a crazy night, that he could talk to someone about the gospel. Right after we finished a dude walked up to him and me and asked if we were Mormons. We talked for a little bit and ended up giving him the number of the missionaries where he lives. God answers prayers, you just gotta ask.

Friday we had a meeting in Colorado, so we drove down and did that. Good time, it was president Palmers first so we talked a lot about the culture of the mission. And super weird thing my trainer Elder Killian showed up!! We were planning on seeing him on monday and he was planning on taking us out to eat. But we were at the mission office and on Friday he stopped by to say hi to some people, and me and Elder Halladay (both of us have been his companion) were there. That was super weird to see him again.

Saturday was an amazing day! Biggest thing that happened that day was jamies baptism. It was amazing, seeing her so happy made my heart happy. At the end she decided unplanned to go up and share her testimony and it was one of the sweetest, most powerful testimonies I've ever heard. These are just a few quotes she said. "today God told me to Let Go" and "I was lost, and you guys found me....thank you". It was amazing.

Sunday I guess I'll talk about jamies confirmation!! She was BEAMING. After we blessed her she was smiling so big, and the rest of Church was so happy and was telling us how amazing she felt. She even messages us later and man twas amazing. The gospel truly changes lives and changes them for the better. Weeks ago she came into church lonely and sad and didn't look to good. This Sunday she looked amazing and was glowing with joy. God really does have a plan of happiness for us and it's found in this church. The only sad truth is that I can't share it with everybody and everybody won't accept it. But people like Jamie is why we try.

Monday was a good day, we were pretty busy doing a lot of unplanned service. I actually helped a dude dig a hole for 1-2 hours, so that was fun. Then that evening Elder Killian (who I guess is now B. J.) came through and took us out to eat. It was good to see him and talk to him. Also cool to think about the beginning of my mission and it doesn't seem like that long....yet at the same time I have already changed some things about me. Im not who I want to become, but I'm working on become that person I want.

Fun stuff:
-the thunderbird were here for CFD so there were some pretty cool airplane stuff happening
-after service on Monday we went to McDonald's to get water (we go to McDonald's for water and soda a lot) and they were trying to get us to pay for it....so we drove across the street and taco John's is amazing and gave us free water. Thinking about leaving some yelp reviews on taco John's and McDonald's.
-my job at CFD one of the nights was making sure people entering the concert don't bring outside containers for drinks. So basically if they had a can of beer I helped them pour it into a cup to take in.
-I saw some bulk riding this week, super entertaining tbh
-along with the bull riding I ate funnel cake, fried oreos, and spiral spuds
-we went to a baptism for these Elders in our district and it was amazing! But....thus lady was super old....she couldn't get under the water. She tried kneeling after the prayer and just dunked her face unto the water and it was hard not to laugh. BUT all is well and we figured it out and she was super happy when it was all over :)

Spiritual thought: Quote from an awesome guy named brother Walker: "there are times when the angels give standing ovations, when you think you've failed". We all could always do better, but a lot of us are probably doing a lot better than they think. People I've taught think they aren't worthy to pray, read scriptures, go to church, be baptized. That is usually a lie. The Saviors Atonement covers all. When He entered the garden and suffered for YOUR sins YOU were worth it. Sometimes in life we feel like failures, a lot of times on my mission I feel like a failure which then leads me to getting down on myself and not seeing myself the way Jesus christ sees me. It's impossible to fail when you are on the Lord errand, and you always have been and always will be loved by the Savior beyond what you can comprehend. Always try to be better and do better, be a little more careful than casual, repent every day. But understand and feel comfort in the fact that the Lord appreciates all the good you already do, there will always be room for improvement and you should improve, but please never allow yourself to feel less than your infinite worth and potential.
