3 September 2019 - Hey, did you think to pray?

Good week in the Lord's vineyard

Last Tuesday we had some Mongolian grill which always makes it a good day. One companionship had one of their recent coverts arrested the night before, so they deserved some Mongolian grill.

Thursday was a good day, we were on exchanges with the Elders that live near us. Elder Ratliff, Magleby, and Owens. I went with Elder Ratliff and Elder Magleby and Elder Huntsman went with Elder Owens. The Lord definitely led us that day. We said a prayer and decided to go to this lady named Tessa. We were walking down Tessas street and we heard someone behind us yelling to us and it was her! It was perfect timing. She ended up needing to borrow a phone so we let her use ours and sat with her, taught her a little bit about the Atonement and repentance and change, some things she needed. She is actually a lot like someone I've taught and seen baptized recently, going through similar struggles. Kinda cool that I was there to encourage her and share that with her. We then walked with her to McDonald's and got some food, and hung out with her for a little longer. It was kinda different than things usually happen, but she definitely needed us at that time. Later that night we taught this cool lady named Lenna. She was awesome, we helped move her a couple weeks ago and accepted our invitation to meet with us because of how nice we were. But she was very clear that if "yall say anything weird, there's the door" and before we prayed she wanted to make sure we weren't going to say anything weird. She was funny. But she enjoyed our message and said she's going to have to think about it which is what we want! She knows there's something different about us but she doesn't know if it's good or bad. Also another small miracle with her, the member we brought with us teaches the 12 year Olds at church and she has a 12 year old....we didn't even know this until she asked about what we do for young men in the church.

Friday was a busy day. We woke up early and drove down to Windsor. We had a set of Elders from Laramie stay the night and take us down with them because we had ZERO miles left for our car. We had a meeting with some missionaries and President Palmer and it was good stuff. I am honestly really excited to have president Palmer as my mission president, I was a little worried when President McMurray left because he was GREAT, but President Palmer is a great mission president as well and is going to be great. We came home and were dead tired but still had some hours left of the day so we went out and worked, twas a good time!

Friday we had a meeting to plan a meeting. Then we did some weekly planning and it was killing me because of how much time we had spent in the church. So we decided to go out for a bit then come back to our planning. Said a prayer, decided to go contact this lady, and didn't even make it to her house. We ended up meeting this cool girl named Jasmine. We offered our message from across the street, then she said no, BUT she crossed the street and walked over to us. Weird that she said no but came and talked with us. We ended up teaching her a little and gave her a book of mormon. The lord had us go attempt to contact someone so that we'd cross paths with Jasmine.

Monday we had a meeting with our whole zone. Not a zone conference, but a zone meeting. It was just a small hour and a half meeting to talk to the entire zone about stuff we learned at our meeting Friday. It was really good, rarely we get a chance to address the entire zone and it was cool to be able to do that. We did our exchange with a set of elders from Nebraska on Monday, so they could be at the meeting in person. I was with Elder Giles, and Elder Huntsman was with Elder Fronk. We had a good time, got taken out to Olive Garden for dinner. Me and Elder Giles went out that night to contact someone, knocked on the door and they yelled "were eating" and I said that we'd come back later and someone said "don't bother". So we went on, stayed in the area and talked to some people. Someone from that first house actually came out and chased us down and talked to us on the street for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Kinda cool that at first they said no, but something made him come out of his house to find us.

Life is good as a missionary, weird how it's the easiest and hardest, most stressful and peaceful, saddest and happiest of times.

Spiritual thought: I was reading in the Holy Writ the other day, in James 5:16. James says "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much". I've been thinking about prayer a lot and that verse taught me a lot. The truth is, as it says 4 chapters earlier, God will give liberally to him that asketh. But there is more to prayer than just saying words. You have to expect your prayer to have an effect on you life, and allow it to change your life. You have to have a "prayer of faith". Our prayers must be FERVENT, pray with your heart, might, mind, and strength. It has to be from your heart, more than just worlds talking to yourself. If you can imagine getting 5 minutes to have a personal interview with the creator of the universe, you would do more than just talk and say rote words. That is in reality what prayer is, you are connected to heaven and Heavenly Father does hear every word. And the last part it mentioned "righteous man". From that I thought about how you should be doing all you can on your part, doing your best to follow the commandments and answers to prayers will come easier. You can't go out and be rebellious and without a repentant heart expect God to answer your prayers. Our goal in life isn't to get to a point where we don't need to prayer, we ALWAYS should be praying. The best people in the scriptures, Nephi, Paul, they are always praying. Prayer, if you do it right, will change your life.

Fun Stuff:
-we were walking around an apartment complex and saw this lady in the gym running on a treadmill. We were outside and walked passed and smiled. Then we realized we didn't offer our message to her. So Elder Huntsman walked back passed and showed her a book of mormon through the window...shs said no....but she had a chance to accept our message!
-I have not been eating good at all...so me and Elder Huntsman came up with a diet plan and called it #STARTSNOW. It's called #STARTSNOW because for weeks we've been eating bad and saying it's the last time, or tomorrow we have to start now. We actually ended up talking about our bodies in Sunday school on Sunday and the teacher literally said the words "you have to start now". Super weird....bur yeah starts now
-there was a legit lightning storm the other night. Wyoming weather is so confusing to me, and I'm honestly terrified for winter to start coming.
