Howdy folks
It's been a good week in Cheyenne. Weird that I've spent almost an entire year in this city.
Last Tuesday we hung out with out a district and played some legit games of spike ball and volleyball. And we had a pretty cool miracle that night. We went over to contact this old couple who had been taught by missionaries on the past. The man, Larry, answered the door and we talked with him. He told us that he was good and they don't want to meet any more. But we kept talking, offered to help him with anything, then he said "hold on". And he went and talked to his wife and came back and said "okay you guys can come in". I'm confident that the spirit touched that man and told him to let us in. We had a good conversation and finished up the night with them. Then we drove down to Colorado because we had exchanges on Wednesday.
I spent all day Wednesday with an elder named Elder Hughes and Elder Huntsman was with Elder Asher. We had a good time. We didn't have too many lessons so we were out all day and honestly I shared more scriptures with people that day than any other day. It was pretty great. Drove home and got home pretty late because we had to stop by the Colorado zone leaders for something. Twas a fun day, got to see a lot of cool missionaries that I usually don't see.
Thursday morning we had our interviews with our mission president. We took 2 other sets of Elders in the mom van, so afterwards we went to lunch. One Elder went home this Saturday, so a super cool member took us all out to a Habachi grill. It was incredible. This chef was flinging food into our mouths and made an onion volcano, squirter lemonade in our mouths. It was great. We had a couple miracles during the rest of the day. One was with this lady named Joanna. We were walking around an apartment complex and got a text from our the bishop. We wanted to sit down to text him back, so we went to this gazebo. While we were there this lady walked by and we kinda yelled at her because she was about to enter a building. We offered our message and to our surprise she said "okay" and came and sat with us. We started talking about God and prophets then out of the blue she mentioned some struggles she's been having. So we flipped the lesson around and shared Alma 40 with her, testified of God's love and the truth of what happens after this life. This lady was crying randomly in this gazebo with two random guys. This church is true. I know how much the gospel can bless people lives I just wish more people did what Joanna did. Just take the time to listen and we can tell you something that you need to hear.
We helped a lady move on Friday, kinda awkward because we asked why she was moving and it was because she was going through a breakup... The rest of the day nothing too exciting happened, we did weekly planning during the rest of the night. It started raining and there was some lightning so me and Elder Huntsman put on some jackets and finished weekly planning walking around outside.
We had to wake up early Saturday morning and drove Elder Ratliff to the mission home. He finished his mission, but is going home a little early to start school. So we dropped him off, stopped by Dutch bros and came drove back to Cheyenne. The rest of the day we couldn't use our car because it was a "car fast" day. So we walked a lot which was kinda fun, didn't see home at all that day. We were in the church building for a while and were getting tired of being there, so we decided to leave and go knock some doors. Said a prayer, went to a nearby neighborhood, and the 4th door we knocked on/the 2nd door someone answered, we met Sergio. We started teaching him our front, then he let us in and we talked for a while. Again he mentioned some struggles and I am so exited to teach him the gospel. Everything we have to share will help him so much.
Sunday was a good day. We met a this guy this last week who isn't a member and his family is. He came to church a set up an appointment with us. Usually it's the other way around and usually it's hard to get people to church. So that was pretty cool.
Fun stuff:
-Elder Hughes has two of his toes that are connected. So when we planned the day we decided we were going to mention that somehow while sharing the gospel. So the first guy we talked to I asked if he's every seen connected goes, talked a little, then shared Jacob 6:5 and said God cleaves to us just as Elder Hughes toes cleave together
-on exchanges we also met this lady, she was kinda grumpy. But she had a nice car so I complimented it and Elder Hughes was joking around and said "you don't go too fast in this thing do you?" and she turned around and yelled "are you kidding me I have an IMPECCABLE driving record". Yikes.
-met a dude that served his mission in Gilbert and talked for a while. Talked mostly about good places to eat
Spiritual Thought: Super cool scripture someone shared with us. Genesis 47:3, "And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.". What is your occupation? We are shepherds. Our job is to help those around us, to bring them into the fold. The person who shared it with us has a time consuming calling in the church, he's a father of 7, and he's has his own job. But before all of those things, he told us he is a Shepherd. Put the job of helping others and loving others and sharing the gospel first. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. It's true.
