15 October 2019 - Winter Ninjas

HELLO

It's been a good week. Last Tuesday we had a cool miracle. We ended up feeling like we should go contact this lady who was formerly taught by missionaries. She was on the 3rd floor, so we walked up the stairs and knocked and nothing. Sooooo we headed back down the stairs, but then behind us a guy came out with his dog and we ended up talking to him as we walked down the stairs. Once we got to the bottom we kept talking for a little bit and talked a lot about the restoration of the gospel. He was super interested and we set up a time to come back. He told us his address and it was literally the door right across from the lady we went to contact. The Lord knows what he's doing, leading us to where we need to be.

We went to 2 district councils on Wednesday and got to know some od the missionaries here. Super weird to have been out over year but all the missionaries who have never served in Wyoming, I have no clue who they are. That evening we were able to teach Donald. We had an appointment set up for around 4 but he didn't answer. We didn't give up, a couple hours later we stopped by again. He still didn't answer....so we were walking down the stairs and THEN he opens the door and comes out and finds us. I don't know why it took so long for him to answer, but he finally came. We went in and started teaching him and it was super weird. He's a very religious guy and loved talking about God and Jesus Christ. He would go on and on and it was kinda hard for us to get a word in. But as we were talking he was playing a video game....actually kinda impressive how he could multi-task like that. But as soon as we started teaching about the Restoration, Joseph Smith, and the Book of Mormon, he changed. He turned off his TV, sat there and let me talk without saying anything. It was pretty cool to see him FEELING the spirit as we testified to him of something he's never heard before, but of something that is TRUE.

Thursday was the first snow day and it DUMPED. But tons of snow and having it be super cold means people are kinder to you, so we decided to walk around a lot in the snow. Ended up driving up to Lyons. All of our area isn't Longmont, our church building is actually in Lyons which is a little drive up into the mountains. So there was some more snoe up there and the Lord definitely blessed us with some people willing to listen!

On Saturday we had a cool experience.
We had some time to go knock doors, so we went to this neighborhood that we felt good about. We got there and looked at the houses and decided it was way too nice and nobody would listen. So we left and went somewhere else and we were having ZERO success. Eventually we realized we needed to find somewhere else and both felt like going back to the neighborhood we were originally at. The lord kinds chastised us. He led us to where we needed to be, we followed the Spirit there, then when we got there we lacked faith and didn't follow through. So we repented and went back and met a lot of really cool people. Hopefully we start teaching some of them soon!

Sunday was great, I was finally able to meet the ward after 2 weeks! Had a great fast and testimony meeting snd for some reason I didn't go up to share my testimony. I usually try to make an effort, because any opportunity to address the ward and get them to trust me more, I'm going to take. But it didn't happen. Then I heard the news that me and Elder Brimley are giving talks next Sunday and we have no topic, we can talk about whatever we want. So I guess it's fine that I didn't have a chance to share my testimony because next week me and Elder Brimley have the whole meeting. That night elder Salliotte and Elder Potter, who are serving in Estes Park, came over for exchanges on Monday.

Spent the day with Elder Salliotte on Monday and we saw tons of miracles! We set a goal of starting to teach someone new and set out to achieve it. We had an appointment set already with someone that we met a week ago, and felt like that would be the person. That appointment fell through....BUT the Lord provides. In the same apartment complex we ended up contacting some people who were formerly taught. Met this lady and she was about to head out somewhere, but at the door argued with the Holy Ghost, and decided to let us in but she said she only had a few minutes. Ended up taking for longer than the minutes she told us at the beginning, and we told her and she said it's no problem we could talk for longer! So we were able to teach her and answer some questions, and she became the person we knew we were going to teach! Many other miracles happened that day with me and Elder Salliotte, and with Elder Brimley and Elder Potter.

Fun stuff
-the snow day, me and Elder Brimley (AZ BOIZ) had a lot of fun....every tree we walked under we would try to get a pile of snow to fall on each other. I had a pretty good throw with a snowball right to his face at one point.
-we started using the term "AZ BOIZ" which we took from another set of Elders who are now home. But now everyone's trying to compete with us. We have a companionship from Texas calling themselves the "lone star Boys", a Utah companionship using "UT BOYZ", and a set of sisters from West Jordan Utah who said "UT WJ GALS" the other day.
-Elder Potter is kinda my grandson. He was trained by Elder Buchanan, who I 2nd transfer trained.
-a dude was chilling on his porch with a bong and he offered us some of his weed...I always joked about weed being everywhere in Colorado but it actually is everywhere...
-there's a Dutch Bros in Longmont and it's bad...im going to have no money

Spiritual thought
Ive been thinking a lot about prayers and how to increase your ability to receive answers to prayers. In general Conference Elder Gong said "we may lose faith in God, but God never loses faith in us". Going along with that thought I thought about God's end of a prayer. He has promises us that if we ask we shall receive. Nephis testimony in the book of mormon is that "God will give liberally to him that asketh". God promises He will answer all throughout scripture, and God doesn't lie. So if he is always keeping his end of the deal/prayer, then we on our side fail God. Similar to how sometimes we lose faith in God but He never loses faith in us, with answers to prayer God never fails us, but we fail God. There is much to do on our part if we want to better connect to heaven. The voice of the Lord won't get louder but our ability to hear it increases. Many things we could do but a few I believe involves living in such a way that you can have the Holy Ghost with you, such as keeping the commandments. Aligning your will with God's, pray for things with a righteous desire, get to a point where His will should be your will. And praying with real intent, all energy of heart, pouring out your soul in mighty prayer. It will make a difference.
