Oh hi there
Good week in the Colorado FOCO Mish!
Last Tuesday we did our preparation day thing, played basketball, got Buffalo wild wings, bought groceries. Then that night we had a super good lesson. We went over to these members who needed a visit and all we did was read Joseph smith's account of the first vision in Joseph Smith history, and it opened up to a super spiritual conversation. It was amazing Hie just reading a small paragraph brought the spirit and we all learned and talked about so much. I know Joseph Smith did see God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. The lesson was up in Lyons and these members started telling us scary bear and mountain lion stories. Apparently last year a bear broke into their car and locked himself in. Then he told us that we shouldn't be afraid of the bears, the mountain lions are all over and you don't see them until they're on you. So I had to go out in the dark and back Elder Brimley out of the driveway while I felt eyes of mountain lions all over me.
Wednesday we were on exchanges with Elder Salliotte and Elder Potter. I spent the day with Elder Potter and it was a good time. Elder Potter is super awesome, he was friend by Elder Buchanan who I second transfer trained. So he's a pretty good mission, has a good ancestry.... We were led to tons of different placed throughout the whole day. Ended up in a small town called Hygiene, in between Longmont and Lyons. Knocked doors on the only street that's in the town. It was cool, Elder Potter pointed out that every different place we went, there was one person we made an impact on. The Lord knows His children.
Thursday morning we had a really good lesson. When we first met this guy, he was out of a job and struggling really badly. Since then he's gotten a job and doing much better! He even told us that he has realized that since he started talking with us, he has seen the blessings we promised him. We talked about the plan of salvation and as usual he said "this makes a lot more sense than what I was taught growing up". I testify that it makes sense, because it is TRUE and because you have heard it BEFORE.
Saturday was full of miracles. Our goal for the day was to teach a lot and to find a new person to teach. We went out the the Lord provided. We contacted lots of people and were able to teach almost every person we contacted. I did learn a big lesson this day as well. We met this one guy, who every time we go over he is drunk or high. He really is a great guy and loves God, but he struggles. He told us that he wakes up every morning feeling sick and doesn't want to drink, but ends up drinking. Later we met a lady and we were teaching her and she pulls dout a cigarette. She said she knows we don't do that kind of stuff, and she shouldn't either. She said she feels pain, and wants to smoke, and knows that the smoke causes more pain but she does it anyway. Two people, completely imprisoned by their addictions. I don't need evidence to trust and believe and know that the God's health law, the word of wisdom, is from Him. But this definitely added to the testimony I do have. It has stolen their agency. But the Lord sent us to those who needed us! Then later in the day we contacted a lady who we taught a couple weeks ago and she let us teach her and her daughter. Her daughter was super interested and she was super ready! She said she's been feeling the need to get closer to God, and we keep coming around so she thought she better let us talk. AND the two were talking about going to church right before we came over. It was awesome.
Sunday was good, we had someone at church with us which is always good. We also spent the second hour with the priests quorum, the youth of the church are awesome....still kinda feel like I still am part of the youth of the church..
Monday we had a meeting in Windsor which lasted until a little after noon. BUT there was a big snow storm covering out entire mission so they were pretty eager to get us all out of Windsor and back to our areas. We had missionaries from Casper and Riverton that had to drive back! The snow came, but it wasn't too bad so we were able to get around in the evening before we had to be home just fine.
Spiritual thought:
D&C 78:19
"And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more."
Definitely lots of reasons to be grateful. You're able to find a lot more joy and be happier, you brighten the lives of other around you, but a really cool promise of gratitude comes from this scripture. When we are grateful we receive MORE. It's worth it to thank Heavenly Father for every single little blessing you've received. The Savior even did it in John 6. Everyone knows rhs story of christ feeding the 5 thousand with 5 loaves and 2 SMALL fishes. But in John's account he mentions this "he had given thanks". There were 5 thousand people and all they had were 5 loaves of bread and two small fishes....not even large fishes. But the Savior gave thanks for it....and a miracle happened. It was multiplied. The same thing can happen in our life. As we make an effort to be more grateful and to thank our Father in Heaven for the things we are blessed with, it gets increased.
Fun stuff:
-we saw a wolf while driving to Lyons on Sunday
-we made tacos for lunch and put ranch and Sriracha in it. Then we added takis in it and it was surprisingly good
-our neighbor got stuck in the snow backing out today and we went to try to help. Just wearing basketball shorts and a tshirt. We tried pushing her from the front and I slipped and fell into tons of snow...it didn't work out quite well. She's still there rn actually as I'm writing this...
Pictures:
-there is TONS OF SNOW TODAY
-idk exchanges
