It's been crazy the last week here in Windsor/Severance.
It's been fun to get to know new members and people. Kinda weird spending the last 3 transfers in the same area with the same companion and not much changing.
Wednesday night we went to an interesting youth devotional with someone we are teaching. It was an interesting. Talked about devices, Tik tok, snapchat, and other social media and stuff. The guy quotes Jacob 7 about sherum "giving up the ghost" and related it to getting rid of snapchat. It was pretty cool.
Friday night we dropped in on the Elders quorum president and we had a good time. We were just going by to introduce myself and ended up staying there for almost an hour just talking about the gospel. I've been in lots of homes of random people as a missionary. I can testify entering homes where the Spirit resides and pictures of Christ are up, I can feel a difference.
Saturday morning we had a breakfast with the missionaries in the stake. Breakfast burritos were good, but the conversation afterwards was powerful. Afterwards we went over to a members home who asked for a blessing. Kinda cool, I have been on exchanges in this area before and stopped by this same members home. So I was able to follow up with some things we talked about last time. It was pretty cool. Later that day I had to go to the bathroom really bad. So we ran quickly to the church building. Ended up not having keys to the building...and I was dying. So we went to a member nearby....and they weren't home. BUT we ran into a guy in his driveway and talked to him for about 2p minutes. Miraculously as we were talking my need to use the bathroom disappeared and we had a good conversation. But as we left it came back...
Monday was a good day. We had about 20 minutes before dinner and ran to knock some doors before. We took a little to figure out where to go, ended up on this small street, and ran to the nearest door. First door we knocked we met a less active member who wasn't on our records. She immediately told us she wasn't interested, BUT we kept talking with her. Many things led to this situation happening, but to make a long story short she was crying on the front porch as we read a book of mormon scripture with her. Again she cried as she said bye and thanked us for being out in the snow. Cool experience.
Fun stuff:
-saying goodbye to some members last week one YW said saying bye to missionaries is like giving up a foster puppy...kinda flattered to be called a puppy
-saw my guy elder Chinbaatar for the first time in a while. First thing I called him was "buduune" ("fat guy" in Mongolian...he called me that for a couple weeks when we were first together before I knew what it meant)
-our van is being borrowed by some sisters so the mission is letting us drive a Silverado that they have. It's pretty nice, but it's like driving a boat....kinda want our mini van back tbh
-Elder Hughes is trying to get me off soda and it's not working. I don't buy soda, it just has a way of finding me. For example: dinner on Saturday night asked if we wanted soda and I couldn't say no. Then they asked if I wanted to take the bottles home and again I couldn't say no, so I had some Sunday. Then we were given money on Monday to go out to eat, and I got a combo that came with a drink. It's not my fault...
-its been snowing a lot and I want it to stop
Spiritual thought: "If any man will DO his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." (John 7:17). As missionaries we ask people to do a lot of things. Read the book of mormon, pray, come to church, keep the word of wisdom, pay tithing, be baptized. But we do it because we KNOW that as you ACT the Spirit will testify and you will receive blessings. The more I read from the Book of mormon and grow to love it the easier it gets for me to ask someone to read it themselves. Just try it out, have an experiment as Alma 32 suggests. That is how you know what is true, only as you ACT.

-bye bye Elder Thacker
