Hey Spirit Siblings!
Anyone weirded out by that, do you every wonder why we call each other "brother" and "sister". Anyway....sorry that's a weird way to start my email.
Had a good preparation day last Tuesday, got stuff done. Coolest moment of the day was when we got a text from an 18 year old member thanking us for message we shared with his family a few days ago. He said it was an answer to a prayer he's had, super cool. The Lord truly does put words into our mouths, even though most of the time we don't even know what impact it makes.
Wednesday morning was full of weird stuff. We drove to Windsor because the Spanish elders were dropping off their car there to get hail damage fixed, and needed a ride back. Right after that we went to an apartment to figure out how to start a lease and move in eventually. That was all strange, finally got to our personal study and went out and worked which felt nice! Talked to a lot of people, and my legs were tired at the end of the day so that's a good sign.
Thursday night we had a really good lesson. We've been meeting with this guy FOREVER. And he's had some pretty good excused to not come to church, but we want him there so bad! We know if will help! We brought a member with us and the Spirit was there and he committed for the first time to come to church! We told him that we want him there, and he knows that it's good. So we just asked him "what can we do to get this to happen". Pretty bold but we figured it out, it was awesome. Drove up to Windsor that night for exchanges on Friday.
Spent Friday with Elder Stockwell. I think this is the 3rd time I've gone on an exchange with him in my mission. So we had a good time, didn't have the awkwardness of working with someone you don't know. We had an interesting lesson that night with some members. We stopped by to share a short message and we ended up inviting them to meet their neighbors. Turned out that invitation was TOO MUCH....so we talked some more and took a step back and invited them to talk to more people at church. Somehow the Atonement got brought up and how it could help them overcome their fears. Then the questions got asked "what does it mean to APPLY the Atonement". Turned into a great conversation. Never expected that to happen but the spirit led and guided us to what needed to be taught.
Saturday we had a miracke happen. I was at McDonald's enjoying an m&m mcflurry and my phone started ringing. Someone we taught a LONG time ago was calling. He has been to Church, he's been taught a LOT, he had a date for baptism, but he DISSAPPEARED. But he's back! We set up an appointment for that day and we saw him at church the next day! When he disappeared we kept telling each other that we hope he just shows up again someday....and he did!
Church was good, we had people there! And we had a really interesting sacrament meeting where there were NO speakers. They turned the time over to the congregation to get up and share one kd their favorite hymns and why/a brief testimony. Then we all sang that song. Pretty cool.
Good day Monday. We spent a lot of time outside walking around talking to people. It was nice with everyone off work and school. Had some lessons. Recently we've been hanging out with this kids we always see in this apartment complex. Play football with them every time we walk by or whatever. Monday they were doing a lemonade stand and they had a TRAPPED. $1 for a small cup...they said it was 5 stars though so of course we got some. Drove up to Lyons because our dinner was up there. Walked around a creepy old neighborhood near the cemetery....ended up in the cemetery....we even found the gravestone of a lady in our ward who isn't dead yet.
Spiritual thought: The counsel in Alma 37:6 that "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass". Whether that's in the positive or the negative. True conversation comes gradually over time. You've heard it before but the small things: prayer, scripture study, pondering daily and attending church weekly. It makes a difference. If you want to aruvuve spiritually, if you want to partake of the fruit of the tree and not fall away (1 Nephi 8) you need to be "CONTINUALLY HOLDING FAST" to the word of God. And in the opposite the adversary leads you by wrapping a "flaxen cord" around you slowly (2 Nephi 26:22) and leadeth you "carefully down to hell" (2 Nephi 28:21). Elder Uchtdorf is correct when he speaks of the huge impact a few degrees make. Start now by doing those small simple things that will help you survive spiritually. And never allow yourself to justify doing the smallest thing you know is wrong.
Fun stuff:
-we went to BWW on Tuesday with a District and we came in a little late. They all had their drinks and stuff, but we sat down he lady walked up and gave us our drinks without asking. Mountain dew for Elder Brimley and Dr pepper for Elder Milius....we go there so much that she remembers.... Thanks Suzy!
-we were walking around a lake just talking and Elder Brimley started telling a story about something and tried to say "I'm not stupid". But instead of those words coming out of his mouth he said "I'm not CHICKEN.....what did i just say?" it made absolutely no sense, there was nothing about chicken that made him say that, he didn't even know why he said it. We were dying....funnier in the moment....sorry this story probs doesn't make sense
-we kicked a bottle cap for MILES while describing what was happening like golf commentators. But then I kicked it into a bush and a scary dog was right next to it so we left it
Pictures:
-cream sweaters ftw
-Zone Conference last week....peep my glasses. "people listen to me better when I wear glasses"
-Red Sox<Yankees
